How is life before IIT, during IIT and after IIT?
While preparing for IIT, most students have a busy daily schedule and are used to waking up early in the morning to do a self study or going to institutes and attending coaching classes. These days are generally busier than any usual day in IIT.
But of course, this phase doesn’t last forever and is not an end – it is actually the beginning – the beginning of a four-year period of potentially tremendous growth and a solid education at the IITs. Here’s how the life of students is before getting into IITs -
Distraction from Social Media
This is the extent of pain students have to go through. During the rigorous preparation phase, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat or Instagram can ruin your focus. JEE requires an undistracted mind, but whenever students feel bored of studies, they sneak out to play some sport or catch up with friends.
Notes, Notes and Notes…
It’s a rat race, and there’s no way one can take a chance. Formulae applications are the most important type of questions in Physics and Mathematics in JEE. Taking notes during the first time reading of the topics help revise at the end. So, whether it’s coaching class or school classes, students are busy making their personal notes for each subject.
Self Study and cross study with friends
No matter how many coaching classes students join or how many study materials/books they buy, they have to spend time studying these materials and lecture notes. Self-study is one of the most important aspects of JEE preparation. The more time one devotes towards clearing concepts in 3 topics (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) – the better are chances of getting a top rank in the JEE.
Planing of Strict Schedule
Before getting into the IITs, students are busy planning each day in advance to make their dream come true. So, most of them set a schedule in their brain about the to-do tasks and stick to time management. This is a crucial time to mark priorities and jot down the work they cannot skip—lunch, classes and seminars.
Exams
This is a nightmare for every student out there. The only Sunday you get is scheduled by Mains/Advance paper tests and the decreasing marks and increasing rank sums up the stress. You become more and more conscious about your studies cage yourself in your room with more stringent study hours but end up realizing you keep back landing at the same place.
Whichever way you look at it, youngsters who make it to the IITs are stars. That’s because they get to cross the hurdle only after having put in an honest effort. The super brains are no exception. Here’s how their life looks like in the IIT campus.
Events and Fests
A lot of fests are organized by IITs in a year. Fest comprises of Guest Lecture, Dance competition, Sports events many tech events( no one gives a damn!!!!) Concerts adorned by many celebs. Your colleges brim up with students from different colleges. IIT’s have 3 fests including all those tech fests and cultural fests you have heard about and then there are inter IIT’s and much more.
You will be all-rounder
Though IIT is a technical institution still you can be anything you want and many of the students have done that efficiently too. You can pursue career in any of the field Thanks! To the resources provided by the college. IIT gives you great exposure to various extracurricular activities and an opportunity to explore the unknown. With lots of activities within the campus, sometimes, students keep playing their favourite sport way past midnight.
Busy life and the deadlines
Most of the time you are going to skip your breakfast when you are at IIT. You will hardly remember taking breakfast if you have lived a life at an IIT. Most of the geeks at IIT are lazy enough to even bath so they find their own ways to get things done giving birth to future inventors. In IIT, life is defined by deadlines. Projects, assignments, presentation students become habitual of these three words.
Hostel and Night Life
Night life in IITs is really mind-blowing. Club activities, people enjoying cricket/ football, TT rooms, music rooms, birthday bumps, discussions till late night on politics, India, economics, astronomy, sometimes gossiping about girls. When you stay at an IIT, you cannot possibly escape the bittersweet fun of hostel life. That’s the place where you’ll enjoy life. It’s the time for night conversations, rooftop study times, bathroom singing sessions, hilarious ragging times and much more.
Learning and Stay Motivated
you will learn to use Positive self-talk every time you face challenges when studying. Some Subjects are tough, thus you must use positive statements to maintain a positive mindset. Learning from your mistakes to identify areas which require more time and efforts. This can become the key to be self motivated while in IITs thus in life too.
When students enter to the IIT campus, almost all of them swear to come outside being placed in very good company with huge salary. But during these four years their mind change many times and some of them choose a career which is nowhere related to engineering. Here’s how their life looks like After graduating from IIT.
Job In their Perspective field
When students enter to the IIT campus, almost all of them swear to come outside being placed in very good company with huge salary. But during these four years their mind change many times and some of them choose a career which is nowhere related to engineering.
Most of the engineering students choose this career path. They work in the field of their graduation. For ex: If they have graduated in computer science or IT, then they work in an IT firm or if they have graduated in Mechanical Engineering, then they work in manufacturing firm.
After IIT , Now IIM
Most engineers from IITs after completing or with their graduation prepare for CAT and get into IIMs. They get an edge over other non-engineers to crack the MBA entrance exam because of their exposure to various competitive entrance exams. Management is an advisory service to assist managers and organization to achieve its goals and objectives. It is the second most opted career choice for IITians.
Harsh Reality
What the media doesn’t report is that the median salary of a fresh IIT graduate is ₹8-10 lakh a year, and that even in the top IITs, 15-20% don’t get jobs on campus.
Game Changers
Interestingly, many IITians wear the tag of game-changers and change makers who take a different path to pursue their passion.
Entrepreneurship
These days, with boom in Information Technology, entrepreneurship has been on rise. The government is also giving a lot of support to start ups. Also, IITs try their best to bring out leadership qualities in its student by having several incubation cells and helping those who want to start their own ventures.
Hope it will help, thanks.
